Moving Out

Posted by sam at July 24th, 2004

Gotta move out by the end of this week.  Steve got angry and moved out yesterday.  Our room mate had a little drunken get together at our house the other night.  There were only 4 people there drinking but they were loud, obnoxious, and stupid.  There was underage sex, druken driving, and physical threats against my good room mate (because he came out and put and end to the underage sex fest).  I woulda come backed him up but I had my headphones on and as loud as possible so I wouldn’t have to hear anything.  I ended up leaving, calling the police on the drunk driver, and sleeping at Laura and Emma’s house.  All I can say is LAME.

So Im going to move everything into Danny’s house for the month of August, and Steve is moving home and is going to look for a place to buy.  If the timing works out, then it’ll be perfect - Ill save a months worth of rent while Im in California, and have a place to live when I get back.  Perfect.

Oh I can’t wait for California.

Want some of this milk?

Posted by sam at July 17th, 2004

So we got our first big order on our Powerless web store.  It wasn’t from a real fan, it was from Danny’s mom.  And for some reason the sale hasn’t showed up in my store stats yet so I’m wondering if it’s lost and they’re never going to get it.

Work was so easy today.  I did nothing but play half life on my laptop the entire day.   I have to work all day tomarrow, so I guess I’m going to get pretty far in that game.

A great deal!

Posted by sam at July 13th, 2004

I went into Keith Jorgenson’s music today because I saw they were having a going out of buisiness sale.  I had been looking for an acoustic bass at some other places that day so I decided to go check it out.

I saw this beauty there marked at $450.  Way out of my price range.  I asked the guy there if it was on sale with everything else (they were seriously selling stuff almost at cost).  He said it was already on sale, but that he would do $350 just because he was tired and wanted to get rid of it.  Still out of my price range.

I sat there and played with it for a while and the guy walked back by and asked what I thought.  I told him I would give him $250 for it right now.  He started thinking about it.  I said; “come on, your in a good mood!”  He thought about it a second and then said okay.

I took it up toi the register and the guy said he couildn’t give it to me for that cheap.  He said it was below cost.  Then the guy who told me the price came up and made him do it.  It was so sweet.

So now I have an acoustic bass.  I can’t afford it, but I have one.

Tough House

Posted by sam at July 12th, 2004

A little update on two posts down.  The motorcycle guy is dead.  Everyone here is giving me a different story about it.

Near as I can piece together the guy was over at our house drinking.  He started getting billigerent and my room mate Matt told him to leave.

I think he was getting billigerent because Matt was getting with his girlfriend.  The dude took off angry (and drunk).  The little cross with all the flowers out in front of my house marks how far he got.

When we got home, after talking to the police, we came inside.  Matt was in his room making out (?) with the dead dude’s girlfriend.  The next night when they were talking about it they showed no emotion whatsoever.

The point of this story is to illustrate the need for me to move out of this house.  Steve and I have been looking for new places to go, and we are to be out by the end of the month.

I can’t handle living in a place where my room mate is drunk all the time.  Every night when I come home the house smells like alcohol.  He’s either drinking or asleep on the couch.

After the biker dude got killed they poured all their alcohol down the drain and agreed to not drink any more.  It was no suprise that their resolution didn’t even last 24 hours.

My landlord was arrested the other day for being a drug dealer.  He got out on bail , and denies that he has been dealing drugs.

    Time to move.

Dan

Posted by sam at July 9th, 2004

Tonight I went to Salt Lake and visited Dan Leslie.  It was hard to see him so helpless.  The kid can’t even swallow - every time he has too much syliva in his mouth someone has to suck it out with a little vaccum hose.  He is an amazing person though, and always upbeat.  I made some jokes and he laughed (as well as he could anyway).  And he was making jokes too, although he can’t really talk because he has a traik(?) in his neck breathing for him so he can’t force any air through his vocal chords.

They will be transfering him to Craig in Colorado next week.  The treatment center out there is supposedly one of the best in the nation.

Just came home to a bunch of police lights.  I can still see them through my window.  The cops yelled at us and hit the car as we were pulling in because we were driving over their crime scene or whatever.

Apparently some dofus on a motor cycle had an accident right in front of our house.  He must have veen going pretty fast because the skid marks are right in front of my house and his bike came to rest at the school parking lor down the street.  I would say thats a good 70 yards away.  Guess they already took the dude to the hospital (which is right across the street).  But there were 13 cops here.

When I got out of the car I asked one of the cops what happened and he ignored me.  So I walked up to another cop and said “Hey can I ask whats going on?” And he said “we had an accident….well…. WE didnt have an accident, some guy did” and walked off.

The cops were here the other day too to ransack my landlords apartment for drugs.  They were tipped off that he was dealing drugs from his apartment.  They found some perscription drugs that a friend left and arrested him.  $750 later he’s out of the clink and really pissed off.

He said he’s never been arrested before - which I know is not true since I have looked him up on the Utah inmate search (to which I can no longer get access :( ).  So I guess I wouldnt put it past him to be dealing drugs either.  There were some pretty shady characters hangin around outside the other day.

I’m glad I’m moving at the end of this month.  Now just to find a place.

A nice comment

“The Powerless are now on SFCN channel 17. The interview was taped a couple of months ago. The band was filmed on June 26th. The show will air 4 times per day until July 7th. I will make a copy for the guys to distribute on this website if they like. And… may I say… I was impressed. I was expecting to film a lot of noise. These guys can write, sing, and perform! They are NOT just another three chord garage band. They are the real deal. If I had a record label I would sign them now! Good luck guys.

P.S. I visited your website just so I could download some tunes. Great site! Another pleasant surprise. “

Sam’s Hot Computer Club Tip #32

Posted by sam at July 6th, 2004

RJH Extensions is a spiffy little program that does what I have been wanting XP to do for quite some time now.  It’s a shell extension, so it adds a few options when you right click a file or folder.  I disabled most of the options, but kept the two that I really like; Shred and Dos Prompt.

When you right click on a file and click the Shred option, the file is deleted.  Instead of simply sending it to the recycle bin, it actually zero’s out the data.  Deleting something in the normal way will leave the data on your hard drive and simply delete the entry for it in your File Allocation Table (like the computers master index).  So even though your data still exists, it simply doesn’t show up anymore.  Someone who knows what they are doing can recover the data very easily.  Shred is the only way to go for deleting data.

The DOS prompt shell extension is very useful as well.  By right clicking a folder in explorer and clicking DOS Prompt, you will get a dos prompt opened in that location.  In the olden days you would have to open a dos prompt, and then enter the directory manually (which can be a pain with these long folder names that are allowed in XP).

RJH Extensions is freeware, and comes with a little utility that allows you to choose which options show up in your right click menu.  Go get it and impress your friends already.

and the verdict is….

Posted by sam at July 6th, 2004

Well, it’s official.  Danny came up with the bright idea of going to Malibu for the entire month (or so) of August.  We would stay in one of his Father’s homes out there and try to play as many shows as possible.  Well, he’s been lazy about getting permission.  This put me in a little bind because I have to plan these things in advance and make some sacrifices to do it AND maintain my life.

Anyway, today Danny got permission, and now it’s just up to my boss and his willingness to let me go for four whole weeks (I don’t see it happening).  I’m really excited about going, I think it will be a blast.  Yet, there has been a small part of me wishing he wouldn’t get permission so that I wouldn’t have to come up with a way to make some money for the trip.  I plan to sell my drum set.

I will actually be okay for the trip, since I get paid on a two week delay.  It’s the aftermath that will kill me, but I’ll figure it out.  I gave my notice to my landlord that I was moving out at the end of the month, and if I play all my cards right maybe I can pay no rent anywhere for August - that would be a major bonus.

So as soon as I get dates from my boss, I will be calling around trying to get gigs in California around the LA area.  If anyone out there has any leads, let me know.  That’s right, if any of you two people who read my journal have any leads…word…
