kid riding a raptor

I went for a walk out in Springville tonight.  It was cold and a little rainy.  I snapped a few shots of some crazy statue of a kid riding a raptor.  Then it started raining too hard to take any more pictures, although there were lots more cool statues and things around to take pictures of.

Queens of Burger King

Posted by sam at November 30th, 2005

I drove from Denver back to Springville today.  I was making really good time so I decided to stop in grand junction and reward myself with a tasty Burger King value meal.  I stopped at the one right off the highway on Horizon drive (I give you the location because I’m warning you not to go there).

I stepped inside and there was a crazy looking guy with a bunch of crap standing 1st in line, so I stood behind him.  He started yelling expletives under his breath.  I wasn’t really looking at him, so I looked and said “What?”

He told me he was talking to his girlfriend, which is interesting because there was nobody else in site, and he didn’t appear to have a cell phone.  Maybe he has an imaginary girlfriend like I do.  I should teach him the ways of pretending he DOESN’T have an imaginary girlfriend while he is in public.

After a few minutes he stepped outside to call his girlfriend on the pay phone (which is a waste of money because imaginary girlfriends are always nearby and don’t answer the phone on the other end).

I was now first in line, but there were no Burger King employees in sight.  I waited about five minutes and finally heard some girls talking in the back of the kitchen.  I started to whistle and shuffle about so they would hopefully hear me.

A few more minutes passed and eventually one of the girls made her way up to the front.  She pretended not to notice me, punched something in on the register, and went back to the back of the store.  I was standing not 3 feet from her and she didn’t say anything.

A few more minutes went by and I finally got frustrated and left.  I got some Wendy’s and continued on my way.

The weather was clear until I got past Price.  The canyon was pretty snowy, but it wasn’t too bad except for the lame people who don’t know how to drive in the snow.  I got delayed quite a bit by a few of those types, but still made it home in good time.

Pop Rocks and Coke

Posted by sam at November 29th, 2005

Remember the urban myth that drinking coke and eating pop rocks will make your head explode or something?  Well, obviously it’s not true.  But what about Coke and Mentos?  You wouldn’t think it would do much, but check out this video on google (via MAKE).

Seriously, anyone wanna try drinking a bunch of coke then eating some mentos?

LJbook

Posted by sam at November 27th, 2005

I just found a very cool service for backing up your livejournal.  It converts all of your entries, including pictures, moods, music, etc. to a PDF book.  One simple file containing everything.

I had used LJSM in the past, but could never get it to download my images right.  So check it out, it’s free, and it’s called LJbook.

spell check

Posted by sam at November 27th, 2005

I got home last night around 7 or 8 o’clock and was locked out.  Sometime since I’ve moved out my parents decided to lock down our house like fort Knox.  I never carried a key growing up because our garage door, which required a code, was always a way in.

So I sat on the porch for about 20 minutes before my family rolled up, who had been out seeing a movie.  I was pretty tired from lack of sleep the night before so I went straight to bed.

Beside waking up for a few hours in the middle of the night I slept, still in my suit, straight until around 5pm.  For those of you math geniuses out there, that’s 21 hours of sleep.  Doesn’t seem healthy does it?

Wouldn’t it be rad if you could just sleep for like 24 hours at the end of the week and then stay awake for the rest of the time?  I bet you would go insane after a few weeks, but those few weeks would be radical.

Cave Wedding

Posted by sam at November 26th, 2005

I went to a wedding in a cave today.  It was my best friend from high school Jeremy Leisy and Kirsten, who he has been dating for several years now.  It was definately cool and unique to have it in a cave.

Afterwards we had brunch (yea, it was early) at Kirsten’s parent’s house. Then we drove to Denver and ate at the Cheesecake factory.  It was good times.

While we were in the cave, Kurt, John, and I went exploring when everyone started to leave.  We ran around the cave and got our suits dirty and such.  It was fun.  As we were leaving there was a tour coming in and everyone was wondering why the heck we were all dressed up in a cave.

A few exciting news items today…

I got a new sugar glider. Stitch just wasn’t very nice and never really warmed up to human contact. I gave her back to the shelter because I figured she would be happy with her own kind.

My new glider is awesome. Her name is skillet and shes already friendly enough to be handled. She has been chillin in my shirt no problem. Pictures will be coming soon.

In other news, I was a guest on the provopulse.com podcast. They call me their “technical analyst” and most of this weeks show was on computer nerd stuff. Check it out at provopulse.com if you’re feeling a bit crazy. Steve Greenstreet (producer of this divided state) was on the show too.

I’m leaving for colorado in the morning for thanksgiving and my friend Leisy’s birthday. Should be good times I’m just NOT looking forward to driving anymore.

Also, my laptop is fried so I will be updating from my phone until I get back from Colorado and can fix it.
