Carputer 1

Today's package from UPS completes my collection of parts that will be required for my car computer install. I already had the mac mini, and today I got the screen, the custom bezel, the power supply, and an adapter cable I need. I will just need a few more little things from the hardware store to complete the install.

Screen and bezel:

Getting the screen to fit in the bezel required taking it all apart, so I decided to plug it in and test it first. There's no going back if I get it all done and the screen is broken. While I was testing it, I also installed the required drivers for the monitor.

Once I was done there it was a simple matter of taking the monitor all apart. Here are the guts:

The screen fits rather nicely if I do say so myself.

Yea, the screen fits, but not so much the PCB. I had to put it in there at a weird angle to get it to work.

All done - time to test it again!

After I got it completed, I had to do some tinkering to get the computer to show the correct resolution. In the picture above, things are a bit stretched. The monitor actually supports resolutions of up to 1024x768, but scales them to it's native resolution. By setting the computer to the native resolution, I get the best possible picture.

Here is a video of the final interface:

Gotta hand it to you, thats pretty cool!

nathan: There are specific

nathan: There are specific OSX drivers. They allow you to do more things that you can't do with a mouse like calibration. But the touchscreen does function like a mouse with the driver.

The frontrow clone is called AMP, and can be found in the forums at mp3car.com

Yes, it's going in my dash tonight!

I can't seem to find good information on the whole mac carputer thing on mp3car.com. Do you happen to have a step by step write-up on how you went about installing yours????
