I was suprised to find the leading causes of death among my age group.  This is a list of what people between the ages of 24-33 die of most commonly.  So these are the things that are statistically most likely kill me within the next 10 years.

Disease Names Average Risk Your Risk Best Risk
Motor Vehicle Accident 329 1363 524
Homicide 244 244 244
Suicide 242 242 242
HIV and AIDS 193 193 193
Other Injuries 126 126 126
Accidental Poisoning 64 64 64
Hit by Car 41 41 41
Heart Attack 34 28 27
Drowning 32 32 32
Cirrhosis 25 23 23
Lymphoma 22 22 22

Skin Cancer 12 12 12
Brain Cancer 12 12 12
Alcohol Poisoning 8 8 8
All other Causes 393 393 393

I would say I’m pretty suprised that  6 out of the first 7 are not health related, and the one that is, I’m not really in a high risk group for getting it.  I was also suprised that fire even made the top 20.

You can check your own possible deaths here.

Also interesting, if you’re 30, the top killer is AIDS.  If you hit 40, the top killer is heart attack until you die.  I only checked for men, though.
